at sunset
grackles pilfer the grass–
never alone
grackles pilfer the grass–
never alone
before bed, the heavy-lidded moon
her birthday
balloon floats on the ceiling —
cats and ribbons
filling in
the awkward silence
the therapist’s small fountain
the bird’s nest
that fell, unwinding
in the rain
the softest rain
blown in and out
of sunlight
a flake of down
spun away by the wind
summer arrives
cricket sounds
in the dark grass
asphalt forever
they sit
and smoke, drink and smoke
parents visit
morning thunder
again I close
the windows
